Big Air Shougang architect reflects on design achievement
Zhang Li, the chief architect of the Big Air Shougang, shared his feelings on participating in the Beijing 2022 Olympic torch relay around the venue that his team designed.
Zhang, also dean of Tsinghua University's School of Architecture, said the experience was much more unique than he expected, as he had the opportunity to engage in an event that would make everyone find their better self.
The Big Air Shougang will be the competition venue for snowboarding and freestyle skiing at the upcoming Winter Games. It has been repurposed from being an industrial complex of iron and steel plants, and represents the sustainable urban regeneration of the capital.
After the Games, the Shougang sport and cultural park is expected to become a popular attraction in Beijing.
