Macao releases 2024 environmental status report
MACAO -- The Environmental Protection Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) on Thursday released the Macao Environmental Status Report 2024 on World Environment Day, highlighting increases in resource recycling, electric vehicles, and green space in 2024.
The bureau noted that, in response to environmental pressures and to enhance carbon reduction and pollution control, the Macao SAR government has advanced various initiatives, including subsidy schemes, to replace aging motorcycles and diesel vehicles with electric alternatives, as well as improvements in public charging and battery swapping facilities.
The report placed special emphasis on solid waste management infrastructure, including the progress of an incineration plant, the construction of an organic resources recovery center, and other related facilities.
The initiatives were expected to enhance Macao's waste treatment capacity and contribute to a waste-to-energy model and the circular use of resources, it added.
