Chinese vice-premier stresses all-out efforts to ensure autumn grain harvest
HARBIN -- Chinese Vice-Premier Liu Guozhong has called for all-out efforts to ensure a bumper autumn grain harvest and further consolidate the foundation for the country's grain security.
Liu, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks during a research trip in Northeast China's Heilongjiang province from Tuesday to Thursday.
Noting that the key to achieving this year's grain production target lies in autumn harvest, Liu called for the solid implementation of all measures that increase grain yield so as to ensure a bumper harvest.
He stressed that attention should always be paid to disaster prevention and control in agricultural production, and that efforts should be made to continuously improve grain production efficiency and standards.
During his trip, Liu also learned about the construction of high-standard farmland, the protection of black soil, trials and demonstrations of new agricultural technologies, as well as the research and application of agricultural machinery.
It is necessary to integrate and promote the advanced and appropriate agricultural technologies to enhance overall grain production capacity, Liu said.
