Recovery of aviation in Tianjin
( 2003-06-23 16:33) (Xinhua)

The aviation industry of Tianjin, the largest port city in northern China, has shown signs of recovery since the World Health Organization lifted the travel advisory against the city on Jun. 13.

The rate of occupancy on all routes rose six or seven percent this week. The seat occupancy on routes linking Tianjin with Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen registered a sharp increase.

Occupancy rates on routes from Shanghai to Tianjin and from Shenzhen to Tianjin exceeded 80 percent.

The local aviation department has added flights between Tianjin and Guangzhou and Shenzhen respectively and resumed flights to SARS-affected regions after they were removed from the travel advisory list.

A municipal aviation official predicted that the aviation industry was likely to resume normal operations in July and August with the approach of summer vacations and the improvement of the SARS situation in Beijing and other areas.
