Three more bodies found in flooded coalmine
( 2003-07-19 16:28) (Xinhua)

Chinese rescue workers found bodies of another three miners who had been trapped beneath a flooded coalmine shaft in Dengfeng City, central China's Henan Province, on Saturday morning.

Sources from the Henan provincial bureau for the supervision of coal mine security said the flooding which occurred at the Dongfeng Coal Mine, Baiping Township, late last Sunday, trapped 21 miners who were working beneath the shaft at the time.

Bodies of 11 other miners were found in the early morning of Friday.

Seven of the dead miners are locals, five are from central China's Hubei Province, one from southwest China's Sichuan Province, and one from Yanshi County of Henan Province.

Operators of Dongfeng Coal Mine, a privately-owned mine which has been operating for more than 10 years, settled compensation procedures with relatives of some of the miners killed in the accident, said local sources.

The search is continuing for the remaining 7 miners who are still trapped beneath the shaft.
