JV deal brightens lighting show's future
( 2003-11-20 00:45) (China Daily)

The annual Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition will shine brighter from next year on thanks to a co-operative deal between Guangzhou Guangya Exhibition & Trade Co Ltd and Messe Frankfurt, one of the world's top exhibition organizers.

The two parties signed an agreement here yesterday to set up a joint venture to organize the Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition from 2004 on.

The exhibition, which has been solely organized by Guangzhou Guangya since 1996, has become the second biggest event of its kind in the world, following only on the one organized by Messe Frankfurt in Germany.

The scale of the exhibitions, the management's expertise in lighting fair organization, their good understanding of the domestic market, and the global resources of both exhibitors and professional buyers are cited as some of the strengths behind the Guangzhou shows by Pan Wenbo, President of Guangzhou Guangya.

Horst Niedlich, vice-president of Messe Frankfurt's technical trade fairs, referred to the new partnership as a great step forward for Messe Frankfurt in Asia, and in China in particular, which not only has an enormous market for lights and illumination facilities but also for illumination fairs.

China, one of the world's largest producers and consumers of lighting products, is expected to be producing US$9 billion worth of illumination products annually by the year 2005, analysts said.

The Pearl River Delta, in South China's Guangdong Province, is one of the nation's key lighting fixture manufacturing bases.

The 2004 Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition, set to be held from June 9 to 12, will for the first time have an electric building technology expo featuring electric building installations and control systems.

The coming expo is expected to attract around 1,100 exhibitors and more than 50,000 professional buyers and visitors, with a total exhibition space of 80,000 square metres.

The ongoing 2003 Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition, which will run until Friday, has attracted 936 exhibitors, including about 200 from 16 countries and regions abroad, taking up 4,500 square metres of the exhibition's to space, a record high.

"The co-operation between Guangzhou Guangya Exhibition & Trade Co Ltd and Messe Frankfurt will build up the reputation of the lighting event worldwide by taking advantage of the expertise of both sides,'' said Pan Wenbo.
